草間彌生與她的圈圈圓圓圈圈

12 JUN 2017 / Apparently history had repeated itself coz prolly mid of last year - whilst I was searching for my first job and Pq trying to clear her leave - we decided to visit Underwater World before it closed for good, and this time round - whilst Im searching for my second job and she still trying to clear her leave (wtf so many leaves ?????) - it was a visit to National Gallery Singapore to catch YAYOI KUSAMA : Life is the Heart of a Rainbow exhibition, along with the Children's Biennale! You actually have to pay 15 bucks for Kusama's exhibition (unless you are able to produce a student card which meant free entry!) but boy, I totally think it's worth every cents for an exhibition which actually lives up to its hype - a focused concept, a showcase of an artist's creative and spiritual output across various art forms and time periods, and not to mention that it's on (almost) everyone's Ig (hmm, guilty as charged but sorry not sorry)

So here's polka dots in all its various forms coming your way below -

"For Kusama, the pumpkin represents comfort and security. Kusama's family owned a nursery and grew fields of pumpkins and flowers; pumpkins were also a major part of her diet as a child during World War II. The artist has said that their 'generous unpretentiousness' and 'solid spiritual balance' appeal to her. Its bulbous form also seems to suggest fertility, and each of Kusama's pumpkins has a highly individual physical presence."

Deep inside the frozen lake
there used to be another sky
blue as it was eternally clear
with fishes that dreamt
of rainbow-coloured wings

- Poem by Betty Susiarjo

Be sure to catch this exhibition - we had a ball there!! (HAHA the pun) I will most probably go for it a second time with Xy and will make sure I get a proper shot at the Infinity Mirrored Room DAFUQ THEY ONLY ALLOW 30 SECS INSIDE ;( There are actually other exhibitions and installations worth checking out too! We went for this teamLab installation (you know, the glowing orbs) and even designed our own virtual ceramic vessel (which we really anyhow design but it turned out pretty good I feel) So yes, there's sooo many things to see and do at the National Gallery Singapore, and the architecture itself is a beauty to behold - so colonial looking on the outside yet pleasantly modern inside!

Ta-da, a Monday well spent with an old friend (:
