19 AUG 2017 / Sometimes, I wish there are subtitles for accent-noobs like myself so that I wouldn't have to concentrate so hard on the words spoken and can instead focus more on the nuances in expressions and the plot in general. That said, Grease (1978) had been a joy to watch, if not for its upbeat song-dance choreography, then for the audiences' uncanny ability to catch the right beat and clapped along! In fact, Grease wasn't our first choice - Xy wanted to watch Top Gun coz Tom Cruise whereas I wanted to go for Life Is Beautiful ... So yeah, we decided on Grease in the end if this makes sense to you HAHA
So, it goes that there were so many ways to be twenty-six years old, and I find that very true - like when you were little you thought by now you would have everything going on for you, but more likely than not, I feel like most of us are still in that barely-there stage, like the envision of THE future is nothing more than a mirage and you still got to find ways to trudge through unforgiving surrounding conditions. But sometimes I find myself being surrounded by the most lovely persons and that's when I always try to remind myself that life is essentially what you make of it - and I can choose to be myself and still be happy. They are, after all, not mutually exclusive (:
15 JUL 2017 / A saturday trip across the causeway - this time with Xy and Yh!! The Replacement whipped up the most delish comfort food and hot chocolate drink I actually like it more than Faculty of Caffeine and in any case, these two cafes come under the same management which meant that the moolah I spent all went to the same people ????? Right after breakfast, we headed to this really ulu part of JB (it's in the Plentong area) for go-kart :D The place's called Permas Go-Kart Club, go check it out! It set us back RM40 for a ten minute ride - which meant you basically play at a little more than one third of Singapore's go-kart price for the same amount of time, and at almost twice the speed here (coz we have really tight regulations in the name of safety so the max speed you can go on a go-kart in Sg is 50km/h if you have a driving licence, and ONLYYY 30km/h if you don't SO WHY PLAY HERE, GO PLAY IN MSIA) After which, we went back to City Square and took neoprints hehehe I realized I took alot of neoprints back in sec sch but never one of the three of us together ;( So I guess this was like making up for lost time ????? Lol, and we sang k too - basically I repeated my itinerary w the AbbVie girls hahaha just that we three added in the go-kart!! But so blessed to be doing my favourite activities with my favourite persons <3
Not to make you cringe, but I used to love decorating neoprints by writing words like 姐妹生涯 HAHAHA and drawing mouse faces coz CUTE and now Im like practicing my skillz on Ig stories ~
14 JUL 2017 / Right after attending the opening ceremony of the 9th ASEAN Schools Games (tickets courtesy of Yx), I headed straight for Le Garden Seafood at Marina Square for a dinner w the AbbVie girls (missing out adele here!!) Omg their seatings damn posh and food wasn't too bad I won't even blame myself for getting food coma hahaha JUST THAT they cook live prawns in front of your very eyes I was like WHY THE PRAWNS SUDDENLY JUMP ONE IM TRAUMATIZED and thankz a million for the polaroid printouts and matcha birthday cake (: - even tho I somehow laughed my candle out without properly making a wish OH THE THINGS I DOOO
I hope I always see beauty in the most simple of things and find joy in the most unexpected of ways 💖
And I remember adeline saying birthday presents are like surprises, but I think cards fall into that category too!! Look at the drawing of natalie's dog hahaha I seriously thought it was a bunny at first BUTTT it occurred to me that dogs have long ears too ... and also adeline's whimsical drawings hahaha THANK YOU ALL <3
20 AUG 2016 / Woohoo we were back at Fort Canning for the third year straight to catch a film under the night sky with hundreds others (: I still think the first open air cinematic experience we went for back in 2014 was the most timeless, with our choice of film (Breakfast at Tiffany's - which in itself is already a classic) and the fact that that was THE first ????? Sis joined us last year for The Imitation Game, which actually is a good movie (personal preference to use the word movie for more contemporary films) but Idk, this kind of setting calls for more romanticism and classics lend a feeling both sentimental and implicitly magical - it's just a different quality of feeling.
THE OPENING SONG WHICH HAD ME EXCLAIMING "DAMN NICEEE"
The thing about Forrest Gump (1994) is that I don't have words to describe how very special it is. The story unfolds in this weird and non-linear manner, even to the point of being monotonous, but all in a good way. It also tells of quiet truths against an epic backdrop, and suddenly I feel like the answer lies in the paradox.
And the death parts always get to me.
You know what makes this part so sad ????? It's coz you know Forrest Gump's an honest bloke and he means what he says and I feel like it's so hard to find anyone who mean what they say anymore, and maybe deep down, Im afraid one day I won't mean what I say. And also coz he loves Jenny so much, for so long - "Why don't you love me, Jenny? I'm not a smart man ... but I know what love is."
BUT THIS IS THE PART WHICH I LOVE THE MOST:
The next day after Jenny left him (againz), he started to run - "That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason, I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going."
And so he ran and ran, for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days and 16 hours.
Until he stops and turns around - "I'm pretty tired ... I think I'll go home now."
In this way, he heals himself. And my tears flow coz this is actually a beautiful way of healing.
"My Mama always said you've got to put the past behind you before you can move on."
ANOTHER FAV QUOTE FRM THE FILM:
Jenny:
Were you scared in Vietnam?
Forrest:
Yes. Well, I-I don't know. Sometimes it would stop raining long enough for the stars to come out ... and then it was nice. It was like just before the sun goes to bed down on the bayou. There was always a million sparkles on the water ... like that mountain lake. It was so clear, Jenny, it looked like there were two skies one on top of the other. And then in the desert, when the sun comes up, I couldn't tell where heaven stopped and the earth began. It's so beautiful.
Everyone's saying how the value of degrees have dropped in recent years coz there are just TOO MANY graduates out there on the streets, and how even our own government's actually NOT encouraging people to further their studies, it suddenly feels like spending a longer time studying in a local public university is a brave thing to do when a different route (say a considerably shorter time in a private institution, why not right) will most probably yield the same results i.e. starting salary. Then again, it boils down to the field of study and this is not what I wanna talk about. What Im saying is, those are not reasons to erase anyone's efforts, no matter which route we chose. We all know how fucked up this system is, so please take a moment to celebrate this milestone.

This year, it's a record of three trips to NUS university cultural centre for the commencement of two secondary school friends and two polytechnic friends. It's funny how my friends who entered local university are all in NUS and Im the only one who joined my Sis at NTU!!! And how Zx mentioned she hasn't even been to UCC before this, when I think I had been there FOUR times hahaha (plus Xy's commencement back in 2013). I believe I have said before graduation ceremonies are so so beautiful and I take back my words now. It is graduation itself that is beautiful. I think generally the ceremonies are plain boring. Soo looking forward to Pq's later in the year which means more pictures to come!!
And with that, cheers to education and learning, forevermore (:
