"You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing", and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."
- Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Saturday had been a beautiful affair. Xy and I were down at Fort Canning in the late evening to find people spreading themselves out nicely across the lawn with mats laid out, finger food and beverages waiting to be consumed. So many of them brought real food along, I was like slowly taking in my KFC fries. But to each her own right, coz I think fries go with any occasions. We two settled down atop steps instead of on the lawn, which might be for the better coz our spot gave us an elevated view. Then again, the size of the screen didn't warrant an elevated view. I didn't even need to wear my specs!
Right before the film started, Xy turned to me asking "Did you feel the rain?" I was like nooo, and then I felt it - that one tiny drop on my right cheek. Wtf, this was an all-weather event. Do we really have to watch the film in the rain?! Anyhoo I brought my umbrella. But before the opening credits ended, the rain stopped. Lol, Idk the rain just decided it shouldn't spoil an Audrey Hepburn film I guess.
This was my first open-air cinema experience, as well as the first time I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's in its entirety. And I love everything about it - right down to the rain that came and went too fast. Just imagine, when it came to the part where Holly was thumbing her guitar singing along to Moon River I looked up into the night sky to see a full moon, her silver luminosity quite glad of Audrey Hepburn serenading audiences even after a good fifty years. The film, the music score - so timeless. And I got to share that with hundreds others, it had been perfect (:
Moon River, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day .....
Two drifters off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see .....
